In the beginning - Michelle Bridges created the 12WBT*

..... and many people joined her. They trembled with fear excitement fear at the prospect of getting their butts whipped into shape, but they followed.
And Michelle handed down her 'commandments';
  •                      You will exercise 6 days a week
  •                      You will eat 1200 calories a day
  •                      You will change your mindset and live a healthy life

We have not received these yet, but I know they're coming!!
The first preseason task was to post on the forum a little about who we are and why we were here. Why the 12WBT for me? This is some of what I wrote;
 "Why do the 12WBT? It's a question a lot of people have asked me, as I am only really looking to lose about 5 kgs. I woke up shortly after my 35th birthday realising I have reached the age where you either "use it or lose it". I can't rely on luck any more to beat weight gain or ill health.
For me it's about reconnecting with myself, being honest about my lifestyle, creating LASTING change to help be a good role model for my girls. I want to wake up in the morning feeling energized, not lethargic. I want to feel strong again - both physically and mentally, that's what I believe the 12WBT can provide better than any other weight loss or fitness program available."
 With hard work - I know I can achieve these goals. BRING IT ON!!

I suck at doing the right thing.

...... because 'self sabotage' sounded so full of drivel! So the 12WBT that I have been droning on about is set to gear up on Monday, so what do I do?  Grab myself the biggest, gooiest, mouth wateringly huge piece of Camembert cheese and devour it. But not by itself, oh no - it's partner in crime; slice upon slice of salty, spicy, leave an oil ring around the mouth salami.

Come to Mumma honey!!

Not that I was particularly hungry mind you, but it made a nice lunch. Is it OK to say that I "balanced" it out with cottage cheese and tomato crackers? Yeah - didn't think so.
Thank my lucky stars the program includes a section on mind set and self talk to stop the rot.

Today being my day off, I should also be vacuuming, polishing, sweeping, all the stuff that keeps the house neat and tidy. Umm, reading The Organised Housewife counts right? RIGHT?

The moral of the story? That I need to be flogging madly today, so when the shiz does hit the fan on Monday, I will have lots of lovely people cheering me on and yelling via the interwebs;
STEP AWAY FORM THE CHOCOLATE MOUSSE - NOW!!!!!!!

Looking Forward ......

Happy New Year Everyone!! However you spent last night, I hope the hangover was worth it! For us, the end of 2011 was spent relaxing with great friends at Anglesea, but we were back in Melbourne for NYE, and lucky enough to be able to see the city fireworks from our front driveway. (Not to mention the plethora of backyard pyrotechnics!!)

Rather than look back, I can't wait to get stuck into this year. For the first time in a long time I feel like I have some very achievable and specific  goals - and I have this blog and all you great bloggy people out there for helping me to find them.
That's what Wherever the Day takes you will be about this year - a journal if you will to help me track and share these goals. In the tabs above you can keep tabs (sorry for the bad pun ;-x ) of the different challenges I am setting myself this year, and I hope you will follow along.
I am NOT calling these resolutions, they are the stepping stones for helping me steer my life in the direction I want. Bring on 2012 - I'm ready for the challenge!!

Bad Mummy Moments ....

       My girls are not babies any more. At nearly six and just three, I think sometimes they have missed out on things that others would consider a rite of passage for a child.

      Example #1 - They have never had a photo taken with Santa.  Every year I would think - "This year. This year we'll do it." My fear I suppose is that the photo would turn out something like this....

"Get me the f*#k out of here!" (Source)
    Years ago, a girlfriend described an horrific trip with her two boys to see Santa - the yelling, the crying, the bribery and the resultant crappy shot that they still had to pay for.

    I kept thinking why would you bother? Who are these photos for? For Great Aunt Millie who never gets to see the kids? For Gran and Pop to put on the mantle? OK, perhaps I'm playing Scrooge for the sake of own sanity, and I know there are many, many families who have no dramas at all with the whole photo with the guy in the red suit gig.

    I'd love to hear others opinions - have you struggled through the photo with Santa, or do the kids boldly sit on his knee, reciting a well practiced list of possible Christmas morning bounty? How do you answer hard hitting questions like " How can Santa be here and and the other shops too Mum?" Or do you, like me just walk calmly past the line and think, "if they ask we will, if they don't - I'm off the hook!"
